People making a difference…

So, it’s inevitable that I meet dynamic, passionate people in my travels. 🙂

On a recent trip from Accra, Ghana to NY, I conversed with a gentleman named Ben Markham, the founder and owner of a non-profit company called Empower Playgrounds. His concept was to build power-generated merry-go-rounds in Africa.  The general idea – a (visible) windmill that sits in the middle of the merry-go-round. The more the children play, the more energy they produce to power a large battery used to recharge lanterns. This “science project” lends portable light to helps children on many levels – by expanding their knowledge, their natural curiosity, and by giving them light to study in classrooms and to do their homework at night. Ingenious! Ten of these playgrounds have already been built in Ghana!

What I remember about this conversation the most – his passion!

    Sherry,

I enjoyed reading your blogpost about your encounter with Ben Markham. I’m glad you saw the passion he has for this great cause of bringing light and opportunity to Ghana, but even happier that you seem to echo the same sentiments. Please follow us on Facebook and through our website as we will have a very big announcement coming in the next few weeks. Thank you for your support.

    Sincerely,
    Chris Owen
